Kamer van Koophandel

Replacement of Google search engine by Elasticsearch

The Kamer van Koophandel is the central place where companies are registered and can also be searched by the public. To search for businesses, a Google search engine called the Google Search Appliance (GSA) was used until the end of 2018. Because the GSA is no longer supported by Google from 2019, the Kamer van Koophandel has started looking for replacement software.

The Elasticsearch solution

Luminis has replaced all used GSA functionality for new Java backends that use Elasticsearch to facilitate all search behavior.

Because the GSA was closely intertwined with many systems, a drop-in replacement was realized in which purchasing systems and customers did not have to make adjustments. The Elasticsearch solution went live without end users being affected. For more information about one of the technical aspects of this case, the following blog can be consulted.
