Replacement of Google search engine by Elasticsearch

The Chamber of Commerce is the central place where companies are registered and can also be searched by the public. To search for businesses, a Google search engine called the Google Search Appliance (GSA) was used until the end of 2018. Because the GSA is no longer supported by Google from 2019, the Chamber of Commerce has started looking for replacement software.

Luminis has replaced all used GSA functionality for new Java backends that use Elasticsearch to facilitate all search behaviour. Because the GSA was closely intertwined with many systems, a drop-in replacement was realised in which purchasing systems and customers did not have to make adjustments. The Elasticsearch solution went live without end users being affected. For more information about one of the technical aspects of this case, the following blog can be consulted.
