Luminis - 1 March 2018

My world is: A Having Insight

Working at Luminis

When I spoke to Bert Breeman in December 2010, he told me about his plans to start Luminis Rotterdam. Some time later, I was introduced to Alex Hoeksma. The insight, the way of working at Luminis and certainly the enthusiasm that Bert and Alex had when speaking about it, made me decide to start this adventure on 1 September 2011. Breaking my old routine gave me a mountain of motivation. New projects and technologies require new knowledge and the fact that you can apply that knowledge motivates me even more.

Typical Luminis?

Luminis stands for quality and one does not compromise quality This may sound like Luminis is an extremely demanding company, but this is not the case. As an employee of Luminis you have the freedom to make what you want of it. This may sound like some sort of hippy-state where freedom/happiness prevail, but it most certainly is not. It is the employees that set the requirements, which are generally very high. Luminis offers them the opportunity to work on innovative projects. The motivation for these jobs to be successful, not only manifests itself in high quality software but also enjoying what you do.

My sound

To make a link to the hippies, the sound I chose for is A whiter shade of pale (1976) by Procol Harum. A beautiful song that really stays in your head. Personally, I find the melody of the song beautiful, but what makes the song even better is that the meaning of the lyrics were open to speculation for years. Many years later, it seemed that the lyrics had no real deep meaning. This was stated on A_Whiter_Shade_of_Pale. Although the song celebrated its 45th birthday in 2012, it remains one of the most beautiful songs ever made.
